Patching the OS

My car has been in and out of the garage 5 times in the last couple of weeks. There’s a light in the middle of the dashboard which keeps coming on. When it does, I take it into the garage and they diagnose a different faulty part. I pay them to replace the part, take the car home and two days later the light comes on again. I was in again on Thursday and once again they couldn’t find the actual fault, but this time rather than replacing something they’ve upgraded the engine management software to the latest version. If it works and the light stays out, then it’s going to be the first time I’ve had my car fixed by patching the software.
